परिचय: Overload Relay क्या है?
Electrical systems में motor protection की बात हो तो सबसे पहले दिमाग में आता है Overload Relay। ये एक compact device है जो motor को overload से बचाता है। Overload तब होता है जब motor अपनी rated current से ज्यादा pull करने लगे, और धीरे-धीरे windings overheat हो जाएं। मेरे experience में, बिना इसके motor जल्दी खराब हो जाती है। इसलिए इसे बोलते हैं – Overload Relay = Motor का Silent Guardian!

Overload Condition कैसे बनती है?

कभी-कभी motor पर sudden load पड़ जाता है

जैसे:-

• Shaft jam

• Bearing fail

• Heavy mechanical load

• Low voltageSingle phasing

ये short circuit नहीं, बल्कि slow heating process है। Motor heavy current लेती रहती है, और बिना protection के winding पिघल सकती है।

Working Principle आसान शब्दों में

Overload Relay का core job है continuous current monitoring।

Process कुछ यूं है:

• Normal load पर motor smooth चल रही → Relay safe mode में

• Load बढ़ा → Current spike

• Sensing element (जैसे bimetal या electronic sensor) heat up

• Set time के बाद trip → Contactor coil off, supply cut

इससे motor हमेशा safe रहती है।

Overload Relay के मुख्य Types

मार्केट में तीन popular types मिलते हैं:

1.Thermal Overload Relay

सबसे basic और reliable। Bimetal strip heat से bend होती है, contacts open।
Pros: सस्ता, dependable, small motors के लिए idea |

2.Magnetic Overload Relay

Magnetic coil पर based। High current से strong field, instant trip।
Pros: Quick response, heavy-duty applications में top choice। थोड़ा costly।

3.Electronic/Digital Overload Relay

Modern industries का favorite। CT-based sensing, digital display।
Features: Phase failure detect, imbalance protection, auto/manual reset, high precision।

Setting कैसे करें? Practical Tips

Motor nameplate से Full Load Current (FLC) note करें।
Formula: Relay Setting = FLC × 1.03 to 1.07 (safety margin के साथ)।
Example: FLC 12A हो तो setting 12.5A रखें। Test करके fine-tune करें

Reset Options

• Manual Reset:– Trip के बाद button दबाओ – safety first, industrial use में best।

• Auto Reset:– खुद reset – fans, pumps के लिए convenient।
